DUTIES
- Responsible for ensuring that the right products and materials are delivered to the right location on time, to the quantity and quality required, and in the most cost effective way.
- Remains accountable to management and fellow team members for achieving all shipping deliverables. Works well in a team environment and has the desire to produce and deliver accurate work.
- Prepare documents such as bills of lading to route materials.
- Process outgoing shipments into computerized shipping software, SAP.
- “Pulls and Picks” material and equipment from inventory to fulfill customer orders.
- Reads customer orders, bills of material, shipping lists, to determine items to be moved, gathered, packaged, distributed and/or shipped.
- Load/Unload trucks as needed and ensures zero damage to the freight during transit.
- Participates in continuous improvement efforts. Provides shipping improvement feedback to the operations manager.
- Properly store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
- Packages items to minimize damage during shipment.
- Applies appropriate labels (Fragile, This Side Up, etc.) and accurate address information to all packages to be shipped
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) (or international equivalent) required, or 1 year experience in comparable position. Relevant post-secondary training preferred. 1+ years of warehouse/inventory experience is preferred. 1+ years of experience with shipping companies such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Dependable. This position supports the Operations team so commitment to complete tasks accurately and on-time is paramount.
- Tactful, reacts well under pressure, responds to customer (Internal or External) needs promptly.
- Looks for ways to improve and promote quality, be accurate and thorough in the process.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations such as adding, subtracting, and dividing.
- Ability to identify and proactively communicate potential obstacles to achieving goal. Work with cross-functional team to identify possible root causes and potential solutions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the standard methods used to pack and unpack materials and supplies from trucks, containers and racking/shelving.
- Ability to listen and be aware of production floor activity to support a safe and hazard free working environment.
- Ability to be objective and flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, work assignments and other interactions that may impact pre-established courses of action for completing projects and assignments.
- Ability to work extended hours and/or varying shifts as requested in order to maintain adequate coverage during hours of operation.
- Forklift experience (Certification through an accredited association or group) preferred.
- Basic understanding of ERP systems (SAP) as it relates to the logistics and shipping disciplines described above preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean and Kaizen methods and practices and standard production safety protocol is preferred.
