Title: Quality Supervisor
Compensation Range: $62,000-$78,000

 

 

Position Objective: 

  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, and coordination of daily activities in the Quality department in either Otsego or Plymouth locations. Encourage and help drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout the Quality team. This position would oversee the Plymouth Quality Technician team.

 

Responsibilities:

•    Mentors new and existing staff and provides regular feedback verbally or in written form; delegates, monitors, and reviews the progress of assigned work to ensure accuracy and consistency. Utilize metrics/quality dashboards to communicate trends, progress and eliminate obstacles for the team to achieve targets.  Evaluate employee work performance and communicate feedback (both positive and areas needing improvement) to employees. Responsible for disciplinary action when appropriate.

•    Communicate department level goals to the team and help them understand their contributions to achieving those goals. Interpret daily productivity expectations and provide necessary resources for team to successfully meet targets.

•    Interprets and shares department and Company policies; monitors the effectiveness of systems and procedures, and makes recommendations to ensure daily operations are efficient, implementing approved changes.

•    Trains and instructs new and existing staff on job functions and the proper use of equipment, jigs, fixtures or gauges as well as following standardized work as provided by supporting team members; monitors the effectiveness of training tools and makes recommendations for changes.
•    Collects and reports various metrics. Ensures the inspection of assemblies from offshore supplier partners, as well as any corresponding rework or reconditioning is done in accordance with written procedures.  In doing so, verifies that materials are transacted accordingly (Ex: QNs, blocked stock, etc.…) within the Wagner ERP system. Monitor, audit and move (whenever possible) materials from hold/blocked stock in a timely manner (or provide updates/reasons for continued holds/blocks).  
•    Sustains and drives lean manufacturing and 6S activities and ensures compliance with established safety policies and procedures.

•    Maintains the highest levels of product conformance to specifications by assuring standard work is followed and equipment, jigs, fixtures or gauges are operating per specifications.  Supports cross-functional team efforts for continuous improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.  Work cross-functionally to collaboratively find solutions that help improve Wagner processes, procedures or products and/or prevent recurrence of issues.

•    Confidentially handles usual, unusual or difficult inquiries or situations, or may direct to the appropriate individual as needed. Interviews candidates, recommends candidate selection, completes performance reviews, and addresses performance improvement issues as required.

•    Performs other duties as required.


Relationship To Others: 
Direct supervisor and technical mentor for Quality personnel.

Daily collaboration with departments including quality, planning, procurement, distribution, tooling, operations and maintenance. 


Dimensions of Position: 
Provides direct supervision and work direction for approximately 4-6 quality personnel.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience
•    Bachelor’s degree in a Quality or Manufacturing-related discipline OR high school diploma GED with a minimum of 3+ years of successful leadership in a quality or manufacturing environment demonstrating knowledge of quality practices, tools, processes and effective leadership.
•    Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, 5S, and continuous incremental improvement.
•    Demonstrated effectiveness in data collection, analysis and comfort in presenting data/results to upper management. 
•    5+ years’ experience in a customer-responsive, lean manufacturing/assembly/ distribution operation.
•    3+ years of leading multiple teams in a manufacturing, assembly, or distribution environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    ASQ Certified Quality Technician OR
•    ASQ Certified Quality Improvement Associate
•    Certified (or can re-certify easily) forklift driver


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
•    Effective oral and written communication skills
•    Knowledge to execute standard SAP transactions or ability to learn & retain 
•    Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and Power BI
•    Emotional Intelligence: Influences others, listens openly, negotiates and resolves disagreements, is cooperative and collaborative
•    Ability to problem-solve – Knowledge of LEAN and ‘standard’ quality tools is a +

•    Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a production/warehouse setting and standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting articles such as boxes or other materials to support production lines. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree with minimal time spent sitting for long periods of computer work and phone usage. This position is full-time, in-office with minimal ability to work from home.
