Position Objective:

Through measurement and inspection, assist the organization in assurance of high quality production of products which will be assured to meet customer needs. Assist the Quality department in auditing of manufacturing processes to assure they are executed as defined.  Assist the organization in meeting operational objectives - Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Measure a variety of mechanical components received from suppliers and or produced here at Wagner. This includes both piece parts and completed products. Conduct auditing of production processes and systems to help assure that processes and systems are designed and executed in a manner which will result in the highest quality products produced in an efficient manner. Conduct or assist in conducting process capability studies to assure that variation is random and is well within engineering tolerance bands.

 

  • Perform detailed inspections on a variety of vendor supplied components along with Wagner manufactured components and assemblies to determine conformance to specifications.

 

  • Maintain calibration and documentation (Gauge Site) of miscellaneous gauges and instruments used in the Plymouth facility.

 

  • Communicate inspection results through appropriate documentation, i.e., SAP movement and disposition, QN's etc.

 

  • Administer actions such as QN activity, material movement etc. Generate reports on audit and inspection activity.

 

  • Use a variety of precision measurement and test equipment. Such as Roundness tester, Electronic test equipment, Force and pull testers and miscellaneous hand operated gauges.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Relationship To Others:

Primary work direction received from the Senior Quality Engineer/Quality Manager.

VP of Quality, Quality Director, Quality Engineers and Quality Technician III will also provide direction on an as needed basis.

Frequent communications regarding inspection activities with personnel in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, purchasing and others within the organization. Occasional discussion with suppliers on specific quality issues and inspection methods.

 

Acting with urgency resolve internal and external material/product/process and documentation issues across the company. 

 

 

Dimensions of Position:

Will be involved primarily in measurement of components the data that will be used to analyze process capability. This is accomplished through following inspection plans to ensure purchased part, manufactured component and assembled product conformity.

 

Works with confidential information such as costs and specifications.

Inspection work typically will include: Surface plate work, Optical comparator, Material hardness, Surface finish (profilometer) Roundness/Cylindricity, Calipers, Micrometers, thread gauges, pin/plug gauges and gauge calibration equipment.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Certification such as ASQ Certified Mechanical Inspector preferred. May also be desirable to have certificates in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.

 

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in an inspection function with experience in auditing manufacturing processes and vendor supplied materials utilizing precision measurement and test equipment to verify conformance of product to specification.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiar with the application of sampling plans such as ANSI/ASQ Z1.9. SAP and PC software such as Word, Excel, Access and Gauge insight are required.
  • Basic understanding of data analysis is required. Position requires above averaged math skills including the knowledge of some trigonometry.

Working Conditions

 

Work is performed in a standard or home office environment as well as production floor. Which requires occasionally lifting articles such as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and phone usage.
