Title:  Accountant

 

Reports to:  Accounting Director

 

 

Position Objective:

Work within the finance department to assure the integrity of reported financial results.  Assure that all job responsibilities are completed as required.  Maintain communication of activity to minimize unexpected financial results.  Remain flexible enough to adapt to new challenges and special projects as required.

1.

 

Treasury Activities – forecast and reconcile daily cash balances, weekly cash collections, borrowing funds as necessary, hedging foreign currency purchase requirements.  Responsible for the timely and accurate forecasting of monthly/quarterly cash flow.  Oversee the resolution of bank matters that arise, such as account maintenance and discrepancies in banking transactions. Report the weekly cash position of Wagner Holidngs, Inc. to the Parent company.

2.

Fixed Asset System – Ensure the integrity of fixed asset and intangible asset systems, including impairment testing, for Wagner Holdings, Inc. by utilizing and developing value added system reports, excel worksheets, capital budget development tools, and internal controls. Ensure that items are properly accounted for as either capital or expense. Ensure that depreciation expense is calculated properly.

General Ledger / Close – Oversee several accrual accounts within the general ledger and record journal entries calculated by the controlling team. Includes reconciling to ensure that there are no financial surprises during the year.  Properly align accrued expenses with the appropriate GL account on a monthly basis.

Sales and Use Tax – Manage entire sales and use tax process.  Responsible for the integrity of Minnesota sales and use tax requirements and other required States.  Requires knowledge of complex sales and use laws, reviewing invoices to ensure that sales tax has been properly accounted for, monitor MN and CO direct sales for proper tax assessment, and document processes.  Filing for capital equipment and capital use sales tax refunds. Prepare and file Canadian GST/HST returns on a monthly basis. These activities ensure limited liability exists for the company during state audits

Business Reporting & Tax Filing Specialist – Manage and maintain Federal, State and Local Government reporting ensures timely and accurate regulatory compliance. File other required excise or gross receipt based tax filings.

Income Tax Return – Facilitate all tax activities by preparing work papers, filing forms with the IRS, managing requests and communicating essential information in a timely and professional manner.  Tax work includes the assistance with tax provision and support for the final return.

Lead annual insurance renewal process and facilitate appropriate action for insurance related matters

Perform other duties and assume accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.

 

 

Relationship to Others:

Interacts with all levels of Wagner Holdings’ management and employees.  Also has contact and exposure to Wagner International officers, affiliated companies, bank reps, auditors, tax accountants, among others.

 

 

Dimensions of Position:

Ensure the integrity of financial reporting, manage daily accounting activities and act as a financial representative of Wagner to outside service companies and vendors.  Recommends and implements new concepts and approaches, regardless of obstacles, to advance the scope and value of the position.

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • 4 year Accounting degree and a minimum 2 years of related experience required, CPA and/or Public Accounting experience preferred but not required.
  • Good knowledge of general accounting principles and how they affect business.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Office products and other computer applications is preferred.
  • Professional, business driven mentality with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization.
