Position Objective:

Responsible for procuring direct and indirect materials to support production and aftermarket sales while reducing inventory and cost.  Assist in the strategic direction of assigned commodities.





  • Tactical and strategic management of supply for assigned commodities.  Work with suppliers to bring materials to Wagner to align with production requirements.   
  • Negotiate with suppliers to maximize value for Wagner.  Commercial leader for assigned group of suppliers
  • Maintain system information such as, lead-time, lot sizes, safety stock, supplier contacts information, days of supply, etc.       
  • Assist the Commodity Manager in development of commodity strategies, including: creation of ‘Request for proposal’ packages; provide detailed analysis of quote package; and make recommendations for future supply may include supplier visits, meetings and onsite assessments.                    
  • Manage quality of parts by interfacing with suppliers during DMR process as well as during supplier first article inspection process
  • Assist in process improvements to make purchasing processes more efficient.
  • Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.




Relationship to Others:

Establish effective working relationships with other departments to ensure the smooth transition of information.


Work with Commodity Manager and Quality Engineer as part of the core team members for a Commodity Team.



Dimensions of Position:

Responsible for management of the daily operations required supporting the procurement of goods and services for manufacturing.  This function includes, placing of orders, expediting, assisting in RFQ packages, assisting in the execution of commodity strategies.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accounting, sales, marketing, computer sciences, communication or similar vocations obtained through a four year bachelor’s degree. B.S. or B.A degree is preferred; Supply Management, Business or Supply Chain is preferred.  APICS or other industry certification a plus.



  • Three years of experience in procurement, expediting or material control required.



  • Ability to determine important/critical issues and act on them (sense of urgency)
  • Familiarity with fundamental concepts, practices and processes in procurement
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Possess excellent negotiation skills in other to bring others together and reconcile differences.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems (critical thinking).
