Position Objective:

Work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to develop and implement strategic and tactical management of specific commodity groups to achieve Wagner’s cost, quality, inventory, service, and production objectives.





  • Identifies, leads, communicates, implements and manages strategic sourcing requirements for assigned commodities. Included but not limited to; part and vendor analysis, pricing negotiation, inventory management, quality control/approval, and ensuring chosen vendors meet manufacturing requirements. Must be able to analyze supply base and make recommendations for best sources to achieve specific goals for the organization.  If necessary bring in new suppliers to the supply base.


  • Negotiate pricing, delivery and other purchase terms and conditions for supply agreements such that inventory investment is minimized and meets company objectives. Identify, initiate and lead cost saving programs with cross-functional business teams. Manage annual material price variance goals for assigned commodities.


  • Lead and manage cross-functional commodity teams to align companies needs and to accelerate collaborative implementation of cost, quality, inventory, service, and production objectives.


  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market condition, trends and supplier capabilities through trade shows, supplier site visits, seminars, professional meetings and Internet research. Identifies and develops new sources of materials, equipment and services to enhance current means of meeting requirements as well as  planning for future needs.


  • Works with quality, buyers, and engineering in disposition of non-conforming materials. Pursues warranty recovery costs from suppliers.


  • Resolve procurement problems such as interpretation of supply agreements, delivery or payment issues, specification of materials and invoice issues.
  • Maintain active dialog with suppliers, buyers, and internal departments to ensure a smooth flow of information (verbal and written). Works as an active team member to professionally represent the Procurement Team internally and externally.
  • Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives




Relationship To Others:

  • Establish effective working relationships with other departments to ensure the smooth transition of information.


  • Work with Buyer and Quality Engineer as part of the core team members for a Commodity Team.



Dimensions of Position:


  • Responsible for management of the daily operations required supporting the procurement of goods and services for manufacturing. This function includes, but is not limited to supplier selection and development; material cost control, cost reduction, supplier quality improvement and supplier delivery performance.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • College degree in Business or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • ISM or APICS certification is a strong plus



  • Six plus years of experience in Procurement, Sourcing, and/or Strategic Supply-chain related field. Experience with international sourcing experience is a plus.



  • Ability to determine important/critical issues and act on them (sense of urgency)

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Possess excellent negotiation skills in order to bring others together and reconcile differences.

  • Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
