Title: Human Resources Internship

Reports to: Human Resources

 

 

Position Objective: This internship is responsible for assisting the Human Resources department with hands-on, day-to-day work related activities to achieve the following objective: Continuously improving process and procedures to ensure that Wagner is an employer of choice. Must hold paramount achieving customer service excellence and employee safety. The HR intern will assist the Human Resource Department with a variety of Human Resources projects and responsibilities. The intern will learn relevant skills in a variety of human resource functions via on-the-job training and mentorship. This role will enable you to gain exposure in the various aspects of HR within a global manufacturing organization. In this role you will develop by partnering with experienced Wagner HR professionals and supporting various initiatives and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Post jobs via internet job boards, company website and other job boards
  • Source candidates, conduct phone screens, and conduct interviews
  • Process offer letters, background checks, and pre-employment drug screens
  • Conduct and process new hire orientations, on-boarding, and paperwork
  • Research and develop an onboarding program
  • Develop interview guide
  • Coordinate current and future internship program
  • May assist with the implementation and/or training of our HRIS systems
  • Take lead on an initiative to inventory and catalog our existing job descriptions
  • Partnering with business leaders and different HR colleagues to systematically refresh and create descriptions that are accurate and in alignment with our job ladders and other HR categorization
  • Collaborating and interviewing managers and individual contributors to identify key responsibilities and qualifications for each position
  • Assembling and aggregating HR Practices into an HR Reference Guide for everyday use and guidance
  • Update job descriptions and policies
  • Assist in design and implementation of HR policies and procedures
  • Assist with data entry and configuration with the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Establish and maintain administrative and processes that allow effective management of all correspondence, reporting requirements and documentation
  • Coordinate recruitment activities and induction process for new hires
  • Updating and accurately maintaining data of existing employees
  • Be accessible and respond to staff/manager inquiries in a timely manner
  • Participate in intern activities
  • Assist in other projects other duties as assigned

 

Relationship To Others: Receive work direction from all within the Human Resourced department. Has the opportunity to work closely with personnel from Operations, Engineering, Production, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service. This position needs a strong self-sufficient individual that can help dig in. May have contact with all Wagner managers and employees and possibly with staffing agencies and external job candidates.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Education

  • In pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Psychology, or other related discipline and completed most or all upper division electives while in good standing.

 

Experience

  • Past HR internship or work in a Human Resources environment desirable 

 

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills practicing good active listening skills with the ability to respond to build relationships. Must be able to convey information effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as internet savvy
  • Diligently attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing tasks
  • Basic mathematics to solve problems
  • Highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality; demonstrated discretion in the handling of highly sensitive material and information
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Be the team player, willing to do a variety of tasks in support of the department and company
  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of a group with the ability to present training material to audience of various size.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload. Must be able to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Strong technology aptitude for using HR Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Exercises good judgment and has good decisional making skills
  • Practices active listening to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
