Title: Manufacturing Engineer I

Reports to: Director, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering

 

 

Position Objective: Plans and designs manufacturing processes. Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization. Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specification.

 

 

Responsibilities:

15%                     1.           Implement assembly process improvements resulting in improved first pass yield.

 

15%                     2.           Participate on cross-functional teams to resolve production issues.

 

15%                     3.           Develop work instructions to meet product specifications and ISO requirements.

10%                     4.           Participate on new product development teams to ensure that product designs conform to the principles of DFA.  Participate in feasibility studies, technical specifications, and engineering product concept reviews.

 

10%                     5.           Participate in the development of assembly lines, including production test equipment, for products assembled onsite and products assembled at low-cost overseas factories.

10%                     6.           Has knowledge of lean manufacturing initiatives including demand-driven continuous flow, 5-S, and elimination of waste through value stream analysis.

 

5%                       7.           Participate in cost reduction projects for product and assembly lines.

 

5%                       8.           Prepare capital justification reports and coordinate the procurement and implementation of capital equipment.

 

5%                       9.           Review and approve ECN’s.

 

5%                     10.           Continuing Education

 

5%                     11.           Performs other duties and assumes accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.

 

 

Relationship to Others:

Dimensions of Position:

  • Position is critical to the company’s objective to introduce new products that are successful in the market.
  • Participates in new product development.  Writes assembly methods and assists in assembly line layout and capacity analysis.  Participates on FMEA and DFM/DFA teams during product development.
  • Coordinates the purchase of equipment and tools to meet product specifications.
  • Works with sensitive company design and quality data including specifications and costs.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Certification in Lean, 5S, DFMA, FMEA, DOE, SPC, 6 sigma is a plus.

 

Experience

Minimum of one year experience in a manufacturing environment with an understanding of mechanical equipment assembly desired. 

 

Skills

  • Must be able to work with people from multiple disciplines to successfully accomplish project goals (project management leadership).
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions (complex problem solving).
  • Makes us of good judgment and decision making ability
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office 2010, Word and Excel
  • Strong understanding of DFA/DRM and lean principles
  • Working knowledge of business acumen and financial management
