Position Objective:

Intern position responsible for assisting the WSI Engineered Systems (ENSY) Operations Team with Manufacturing Engineering support to achieve the following objective:


Provides support to meet operational objectives for Safety, Quality, Accuracy, Delivery, and Cost for ENSY warehouse and assembly value stream; encourages a culture of continuous improvement for the ENSY operation.  Evaluate and improve production systems to ensure that product conforms to specifications while operating in the most cost effective manner.  Must hold paramount achieving customer excellence and employee safety.  Provide manufacturing engineering role throughout project lifecycle for Engineered System development including installation and commissioning.


Assist the ENSY Operations Team in the following accountabilities:

30%                1                    Develop assembly procedures and work instructions for existing products that support engineered systems, after sale products, and standard product designs. This includes designing, fabricating, qualifying assembly line equipment, fixtures, and tools as needed to build company product to design specifications.  Define methods to insure process and equipment are in place and maintained to consistently produce products to specifications and within standard time allowances; determine and/or confirm labor time standards.


10%                2                  Work with purchasing, warehouse, engineering and assembly to analyze and ensure material flow from suppliers through assembly area will fulfill assembly requirements in an efficient manner; may involve reorganizing parts storage for all in-house assembly.


30%                 3                   Develop standard operating procedures for engineered system installations together with Service Sales Team including responsibilities by function (i.e., mechanical, electrical, site supervisor/project management, commissioning technician).


15%                 4                   Support cost reduction initiatives on components used in ENSY projects as well as after sale items and standard products.


15%                  5                 Perform other duties and assume accountability as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.


Relationship to Others:

Mechanical Engineers and Logistics & Assembly Specialist: Work direction. 


Tool room, Purchasing and Suppliers: Provide work direction as needed to fabricate and procure equipment, tools, jigs, and fixtures.


Service/Sales Team Manager and Field Service Technicians:  Work direction to develop standard in-field work instructions for all project related assembly and commissioning tasks.


Project Management and ENSY Operations Director: Weekly reviews.


Dimensions of Position:

Assist engineered systems operations team in supporting custom system design and project execution through installation and commissioning.  Includes development of assembly methods, tooling, assembly process layout, material flow and potentially in-field assembly analysis.


Develop standard work cooperatively with Logistics & Assembly Specialist and other ENSY team members.  Support ENSY team cost reduction initiatives.


Education and Experience:



  • In pursuit or has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering Degree. Completed most or all upper division electives.



  • Past work in an assembly environments desirable.
