Position Objective:


The position is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing a comprehensive total rewards strategy inclusive of compensation, benefits, retirement, engagement and other work experience programs.  This position will play an integral role in the company’s overall business strategies and efforts to attract, engage, and retain a highly talented and diverse workforce

35%     Benefits:


• Effectively plan and direct the implementation and administration of all benefit plans including annual open enrollment efforts.

• Manages benefit cost center (617896) to ensure expenses in line with annual budget.  Prepares annual budget for total rewards and manage expenditures related to benefit programs. 

• Effectively manages and collaborates with vendors and external partners, including managing performance of contracts to ensure maximum value of services is delivered.      

• Develop and coordinate communication strategies and activities designed to educate and inform employees about total rewards. 

• Serve as the main resource for employees and managers regarding all benefit related matters  

• Assess the effectiveness of current programs in relation to the company objectives and recommend change where necessary. 


35%     Compensation:

• Develops, recommends, manages, and implements compensation structures including grade/band structures, bonus plans, sales incentive plans and executive compensation plans and ensures that the programs are fair, equitable and competitive and that they align with company strategy and business goals.

• Coordinates the annual salary planning and salary review process. 

• Evaluates the compensation landscape to understand and learn from best practices through benchmarking and industry and employment trends, track legislation and make recommendations.  Conducts and participates in salary surveys in order to understand competitive compensation levels.

• Complete job evaluation studies and ensures that job descriptions on file are current, complete and accurate.


15%     Assist with other reward programs to achieve attraction and retention goals.  This includes employee recognition, career growth, and policies related to flexibility and work/life effectiveness. 


10%     Oversee company’s wellness program.  Partner with healthcare and other external vendors to identify trends and best practice to optimize use of resources to effectively deliver a wellness program.   


5%       Assist with related activities and tasks in support of the HR Department. 



Relationship To Others: Senior member of the HR team. Acts as internal advisor to all employees in the area of compensation and benefits.  External contacts with brokers and insurance providers.



Dimensions of Position:   Works with confidential information including salary data, personnel files, company records, and benefit plans.  Acts as HIPAA privacy officer.  Manages Payroll & Benefits Specialist.  Oversees $10M benefit cost center. This position is hybrid averaging two days per week in the office. 



Education and Experience:



Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience. SPHR/SHRM-SCP or CCP/CBP certifications preferred.



5+ years experience specializing in Total Rewards (compensation, benefits, wellness) combined with broad HR Generalist experience.   Experienced with vendor-relations and multi-state employers.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Broad expertise in the Human Resources body of knowledge
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and MSTeams.  
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory and legislative imperatives and impacts related to total rewards programs (FLSA, Sec 125, ERISA, 409A, HIPAA, etc)
  • Excellent written, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.  Must be comfortable speaking in front of a group with the ability to present to audience of various size.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work through processes, identify and implement process improvements and resolve complex matters.
  • Good knowledge of financial terms and principles.  Ability to calculate percentages, discounts, and commissions. 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.  Must be able to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism. 
  • Highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality; demonstrated discretion in the handling of highly sensitive material and information
